I met Cole's family as part of a campaign for the City of Tigard, documenting ways that community organizations and ordinary residents throughout the city were participating in the transition to clean energy.

It wasn't enough, for either of us, to just capture the man's face and move on. We wanted these commercial portraits to convey a sense of the grit and effort that it had required to build the business.

Portland is sneaker country, everybody knows that. Nike was founded here and it’s home to adidas’ American headquarters. Plus there’s a whole ecosystem of brands feeding the Pacific Northwest’s ravenous hunger for outdoor sports like Columbia, KEEN, Leatherman and Under Armour. 

Together in NE Portland, we explore the path we might be able to walk as a community so that these systems don't just serve people equally, but can be used as an engine for economic empowerment.

What I love so much about the community we're building in Portland is that we take care of each other. The greater the need, the more us show up with our hands full and minds open.
