Stewarding Change and Celebration for a Mission-Driven Portland Consultancy

Four people laugh and smile together for a portrait outdoors in front of a dark shingled building during the Catalysis 15th anniversary event, standing next to a painted golden logo.

Something really special happens when you elevate your positioning from solopreneur to a distinct brand.

It takes on a life all its own. The team you build around your core methodology permanently alters its trajectory, pushing your business in brand new, unexpected directions.

Catalysis LLC is no stranger to transformations like this. Chris Wallace Caldwell has grown her consultancy to include her colleague’s bold ideas. In their work together, they steward nonprofits and public agencies through organizational development challenges, and periods of rapid change.

When they were looking for a way to amplify their 15th anniversary party, Human Centric Media designed a production that orbited around what makes them successful:

The warmth and mutuality of their relationships.

Accomplishing this takes time and research - a discovery conversation with Chris where we asked about how Catalysis is evolving, and how each team member helps carry that momentum.

Designing a safe container for these relationships to shine also requires patience and perspective. We labor to go into an event like an anniversary party without preconceived notions of what the final narrative will look like - instead using the acquired background knowledge, and an understanding of the organization’s goals, to frame each interaction as uniquely relevant, and part of the whole.

At Steeplejack on NE Broadway, guests flowed in, grabbed drinks and said hello to old friends. There were representatives from public education, city government and social service nonprofits. Years of warm relationships that have led to impact and progressive change in our community.

You can see the strength of these connections in the candids, and each individual’s vision and resolve in the posed portraits. Together, they paint a picture of a business and community that’s evolving.

Change like this is inevitable. It’s part of how we grow together, as a city and a country.

For Human Centric Media, each creative collaboration is an opportunity to look audiences in the eye and speak from your chest. What kind of change are you pushing for? Who’s walking with you in that work?

The resulting assets are evergreen precisely because they’re focused around this long-term vision, and the hard-earned perspective Chris brings to Catalysis’ work.

You can SEE the wisdom in these photographs. That’s their power.
